Adding Value From Ed Mickool What would happen if we all took the time to add value to someone else each day? Would the world be a better place? Would your community, school or even family be better off? I think so. I′ve heard from many people in many professions and from students that "we always hear about what we do wrong but hardly ever what we do right." How many people can you think of that deserve a compliment and appreciation for what they do? How about your local gift shops and florists? Have you ever called and let them know the flowers were beautiful, thanks for the delivery service or we appreciate you being here for us? I know I love the convenience of calling, ordering something and having it delivered and I really appreciate them being there. And how about your insurance agent? Is he there when you need him, even after hours? Does he provide you with personal attention and friendly service? Thank him for being there. Teachers in our schools spend day after day adding value to our children. They put up with all sorts of behavior, yet continue to teach and play and love. And how about our school principals? We need to let these people know how much we appreciate what they do. Can you think of someone you need to add value to today? The secretary, the sanitation worker, your doctor, nurse, pharmacist, or dry cleaner? How about the postal worker that brings your mail everyday or the paper carrier? Is your pastor there for you and your children in good times and bad? Thank him. Do your children ever make good grades or show kindness to someone else? Do they make their bed or take out the trash? Do they take care of a pet or show some other form of responsibility? Let them know you appreciate their actions and thank them. During this time of Thanksgiving, I think it appropriate to make a point to thank those people who have somehow added value to your life and your community. Think of someone you know that deserves a big "thank you" and let them know you appreciate them. Here are a few suggestions in how to add value to someone you know. 1. Send a flower to your insurance agent or secretary. 2. Send a thank-you note to your florist. 3. Thank the city workers for keeping our city clean and beautiful. 4. Take a teacher a card or box of candy. 5. Take a basket of fruit to the people at your favorite business. 6. Let the principal know when you are pleased with his choices or decisions. (Take him a cheese Danish from the bakery). 7. Thank the folks at the bakery for the wonderful treats they provide our community. 8. Always take the time to thank people for the value they add to your life and community |
